I will research for the French guys singing playbacking the original. btw what is your point of view of the French band, Century? They are sure underrated and the singer, Jean-Louis Milford was born in Beatles' hometown

JL Milford has really a voice that u can't forget if u have heard it. Unfortunately, only one of his song has been known, i don't know why he didn't find a way to be more famous. by the way, music history is filled with one song groups :) Like Hotel California, Or Born to be alive (another french guy :) ). And for french singers that i know better than others (indeed, i'm french), there is a lot of examples, of 'one hit wonder' :

for example these songs were on all mouths in the 80's / 90's in France, but singers are mostly unknown now :
