I assume there are other players besides me who have kids and would like their kids to be able play BFV online with other kids. But they probably hesitate because there is no kid safe server where language is strongly enforced and parents/guardians don't need to worry about whom their kids are playing with.

My kids have played on Hello before but I had to stop them after a few players were occasionally using inappropriate language. I occasionally allow them to play when my friends or admins are playing. @TheNME @silvia and other players were very helpful in 2018 and 2019 to enforce language rules and guide my kids in the game.

May I suggest a password protected server for kids-only, who must been registered on the forum by their parents/guardians to receive the password.

This server would be only for kids under 16 or 18 with admins assigned to oversee them. I'm sure even non-Hello BFV players would be interested in such a BFV server only for their kids.

Good evening there :)

Al, you certainly are active I'll give you that! :D

This has actually been discussed sometime ago, at least not in the sense of actually bringing in younger people but the whole swearing debacle. Back then it was decided against enforcing more strict rules mainly because the server generally was full of adults.

Being a war game, as was the common statement used in this type of debate, there is bound to be swearing. Considering many come here to unwind, it was acceptable for the odd swearing to occur.

Having said this, and this is slightly off topic, if I was in charge of HelloMiners - they would hate my guts because in my very strong opinion no minor to be exposed to any kind of swearing of any nature. Their rules of swearing is very much like ours. Nothing excessive, occasional drops allowed. Minecraft is, at least from my viewpoint, catered to a younger audience. Yes, grown adults play it, but it's foundation is based upon minors playing it. It's a game for them.

Back on topic, I used the above to show that I have a very strong standpoint when it actually comes to swearing and insults. It's why I take things as I see them here, if someone swears at another player, I take it as I see it. I don't see it as a joke, likewise I don't find it funny nor playful banter. Yet I abstain from acting immediately when I see stuff like that because, again, if the person was offended they'd say so and action would happen.

Having said all this, I would be inclined to agree to a change of rules. However, as straightforward as it is in nature, it's still a bit of a difficult situation.

We'd need to literally police the chat more thoroughly. We'd need to make even the most minute a slur punishable.

I concede that this can mostly be done autonomously, by coming up with as many bad words and slurs as possible and then adding them to the banned words list so the server can kick and ban people accordingly.

I would indeed appreciate the younger players joining us, instead of splitting off into a different server. I don't think it would be wise at all to specially setup a server just for the younger players. As SellOut & HTN have said, which I agree with, I would rather work to a solution on our primary server.

I will ask the Admins to chime in on this thread, if the bulk of us are in agreement, we can implement it.

Sidenote: Once the current trial of Admins is over, I will be attempting to organize an event to try and fill the server. Details of which will be announced in early February.

Regards,
Ice
G'day Ice :) With the Auto recognition of swear/cussing words wouldn't you have to list those words in all languages? Not only in English? Example but not directed at Santa purely. As Santa uses both Dutch, German and English he has sworn and insulted in all languages. So would the German written insults trip the auto kick?

Hi Blue

We will have to add every single word and variations in as many languages as possible so I think it will have to be a work in progress. We will also have admins kicking for language breaches as well imo :)

Exactly my opinion.
I think the auto warning will help admins to decide whether to kick that player or analyse that it is not that insulting in the context written.

Just visited a site for German insults. There is e.g. the word "Zander" in it, which could be an insult, but in another context it is just a fish :D And e.g. "Going to eat a nice Zander now" is not meant insulting in most cases :D

Good day to you Blue, ;)

For the most part we will add what is most definitely insults. Yes it will be in the common languages we have here and more added as we see them. As Vmax said, it will be a work in progress, so we will aim to add as many insults / cuss words in as many languages as possible.

In truth, this system will essentially do the work for the Admins actually. Unless a new word pops up then it will need to manually be dealt with. :)

Ice

In thai language a lot of names are using the phrase Porn so should porn be banned? I would like words like Vegan cheese and Vegetarian bacon to be banned as they insult me and my proffesion

Please do not ban the word "hist" as that is what I use in my regular course of complaining. "Hist" - you'll figure it out.

I like the Idea of a banned word list. Even though it would be difficult to list all the profanities is would solve the issue of players using language unknowingly.
For instance, I seen player with the name mother ---ker and when asked to change he did not respond. May have been a child that spoke a different language and had no idea his name was offensive. I believe actual list would be a good Idea.
