I've done a explanation of what the lyrics refer to so anyone not Australian can understand their meaning.......


I came from the Dreamtime( the aboriginal story of where they came from)
From the dusty red-soil plains( Austrlialia is a vast country of red soil and open space)
I am the ancient heart ( heart being from where the love of country comes from)
The keeper of the flame( keeping of ancient customs alive)

I watched the tall ships come( Tall ships,being the sailing ships that brought the British to Australia)

On a dry and barren run( A run is a Station as we call a ranch or farm)
A convict, then a free man(after serving time convicts were given their freedom)

I'm Ned Kelly on the run( Ned Kelly infamous outlaw called a bush ranger who made his own armour our of plow discs)
I'm the one who waltzed matilda( Matilda is a nik name for the bedroll of a Swagman (Hobo) Waltzed mean to walk with)
I am Australian

I'm the black soil of the plain( Plains being the open ground inland)

The rivers when they run( we have droughts where the rivers stop flowing)
The spirit of this great land( being Australian isn't being born here, it is a state of mind)
