Hey,
So 2014 is coming to an end which would make this a fitting time to go over the changes we have made over this year and perhaps more to come in 2015.
The beginning of the year - My absence: Despite being BFV leader I disappeared for a few months to sort some stuff out with very little notice to the admins and Tedde. Despite this they stepped up and made sure BFV kept rolling along smoothly so I'd like to thank you all for doing that.
April 2014 - Gamespy: This was probably the low point of the year; we were unsure about what would happen and exactly how it would affect us. Once gamespy did end, we lost players and our chance of gaining new ones dropped drastically as they would have a blank server list. However, we did what we could to help player's adapt to this change and provided methods to continue joining. Despite Gamespy closing down, we still have players that join and we even got some new ones; so thank you to all of you that continue to play as without you we'd be a very empty server.
June 2014 - main raping: With the decline in players, and the fact that games could get very boring if you couldn't even get out of your main, we implemented a rule against main raping unless it is the team's last flag after suggestions from players. This new rule has helped promote fair gameplay between players and given them a chance to have a good game regardless of player numbers. This rule is upheld by a simple set of actions:
A main-raping player will instantly be killed and given a warning not to main rape.
If the player then does it again, they will be kicked from the server.
The specifics regarding this rule's implementation can be found at the bottom of our server page
Website and server issues: We've had these throughout the year, primarily down to one former player who would like to ruin the game for the rest of us, but each time we've prevailed and got past the issue. Most of these changes happened behind the scenes, but almost all the times they have affected you as players. I'd like to thank you all for your understanding and sticking by us while we figured out and implemented solutions.
The past 2 months - new admins: Over the past 2 months we've implemented 4 new admins. (IrishKnuckles, a Fluffy Kitten, Vmax and Hairball). Some of these are more recent than others so give them time to get used to how everything works and hopefully we'll have more admins on to cover times that were previously without any admins.
December - Heli/plane spawns: Starting on Saturday I modified the maps to make the helis and some planes spawn higher than usual (You've probably noticed them falling). This has rendered standing on the pad useless as the helicopter/plane will now crush the player on the pad or push them out of the way. Hopefully this will make it fairer for everyone as a select few players can not cause a team to lose its air support.
During this time I also saw certain vehicles in the maps were removed. You can see them below (bear in mind some might be duplicates or non-functional and the names can be misleading.)
I'd also like to apologise for the 4+ hours of Khe Sahn we had today...after playing through it I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
With that out of the way though I'd like to wish you all a happy new year. Hopefully there will be a lot more BFV gaming to come and perhaps we'd even have a sudden influx of new players to kill. (We can always hope, right? )
