[Tutorial] Play Battlefield Vietnam on Linux (and many other windows games!)

Hello,
this thread is for peoples like me that don't want use windows 10 and still run their favorites programs and games.
Microsoft stopped the win7 support, so now it was time to make a choice.
I chosen to use linux Mint 20 (released in May 2020), created especially for peoples coming from windows OS, this linux version is just fantastic and very easy to use!
I think with "Mint" Pc rules are changing (Now Steam works on linux and more and more games are working on it. I can run GTA 5, 7 day to die from Steam
They are smooth (sometimes more!), I could not believe my eyes!
Now we have two choices:
1/install an Os taking 4 houres watching a loader on a blue screen, cost 200$, very heavy
2/install a free Os, small and use it with a web browser working during it is installing himself in 20 minutes

First, install Linux Mint 20 i wont explain how to do that, there are many video tutorials on youtube.
You can also dual boot (keep your windows system and install linux with choice at pc start) just check "How to dual boot linux and windows" in youtube.
If you prefer erase windows, make a copy of your installed programs folders that you want keep on an external device.
(For exemple: here we are talking about battlefield vietnam, so juste make a copy of the installed game folder /programfiles(x86)/EaGames/battlefield vietnam)
If you kept your windows Os you can run the program from linux using the original windows/programfiles(x86) place. You needn't clone the game folder.

When you installed Linux Mint, go into the "Software manager store", search "wine 5" and install it.
Wine is a powerfull Windows OS emulator that can run many .Exe

When it is done, Technically you can run battlefield but you wont be able to play online, you'll get "wrong cd key" message
So, just go into Ereg folder (/EA GAMES/Battlefield Vietnam/eReg) and execute with Wine "Battlefiel vietnam_code.exe" with right click to enter a valid Key.
If you need one, pm an admin on this forum he can give you an original and legal key.
If you have a valid key but you dont know where is your game install on your old pc>> pm me, I remember where you put it.

Now you can run BfVietnam.Exe with Wine and it works like a charm on linux!

Bonus:
Linux gives .exe a default not fun icon
it is easy to change it, juste right click on exe file, go to properties and click on the icon. You can change it manually with jpg, png...

There are more and more users choose Linux over Windows lately, and Steam is indeed expanding their titles catalog for Linux support. Some say Linux is better than Windows in many ways, so this information regarding transferring your Battlefield Vietnam copy and get it running can be very useful if you decide to become a Linux user.

Perhaps, it will even can help users to avoid some Battlefield Vietnam installation and running issues, which are typical for Windows 7, 8 or 10 users.
Does it require sound fix to be installed in order to hear in-game radio commands and other sounds, or is it working just fine without it?

it works fine without it, this way keeps all your settings, you have nothing to do
Some games that never worked on Win7 (exemple :Max payne 2) work like a charm on Linux.
