Hey,

You're right, your name wasn't necessarily offensive. Childish, immature...sure, but that's not something we deal with.

Considering it wasn't offensive, and we removed the rules regarding sexual chat/names years ago, as per this rather old topic, your ban has been removed for now.

The problem is likely that we don't explicitly state that names like this are allowed in our rules, and therefore they can be seen as offensive and be dealt with. However, until our policy on sexual language changes, you are welcome to use the name if you must...

Bear in mind though that this rule can change at any time, and specifics regarding it are likely to change soon.

Is this the way Hello runs server?

If there something you'd like to say? If you think there's a problem then let us know, we can't read minds and I'm not much of a fan of cryptic messages from people who seem to think there's an issue but are not willing to just tell us.

No, you probably shouldn't have been banned. No, we don't have any specific rules on sexual but non-offensive language. Yes, it was a pointless name you had no need to use.

I've also no doubt there's some ulterior motive behind the choice too, based on your claims of "censorship" when a thread derails into arguments/pointless comments and so it gets locked, as well as your choice to edit all your reports to remove their content it seems you have bone to pick with us.

Maybe I'm wrong though and you just felt that name was a smart choice and you had other reasons for editing all your reports in which case I apologise...

Regards,

Actually, I found your name to be a bit offensive, not from my perspective because very little actually offends me, but because there are other players on here who might find it offensive. Some older players allow their children to play, and these players would probably find your name to be offensive. For their sake, I asked you repeatedly to change your name, eventually kicking you for it and then banning you for a map.

You changed it...to something just as bad.

Then you changed it to a normal name but returned a map later with the original name. That is when I banned you for a day.

Did you choose a name simply to see if it would get you noticed and get banned? If so, then congratulations!

I did give you an answer. You asked why "dick" could not be used as part of a name, and I told you that given the context, it could be offensive. It may be the name of a cake, but there are many different kinds of cake and many more names. Why choose that one?

Here is my stance on this. Eventually, someone was going to come online and complain about your name, and at that point I would have to act. If I waited three rounds before doing anything, then that makes it seem as if I approve. I am not convinced that you can choose any name you want and hide behind the lame excuse of "cultural misunderstanding."

No, the fact is that you chose a name that you knew could be offensive simply to see if anyone would do anything. Someone did. Mission accomplished.

SK is correct. Your name does not violate any of the specific rules of the server. I felt I was acting for the sake of the other players, and here is the rule I was using:
2. KEEP THE LANGUAGE AND YOUR NAME CLEAN.
Yes, we understand the Vietnam war did not consist of of formality and upper class mannerisms, however, this is not Vietnam. While we are relaxed enough to let you use any names and use any language you like there is small print. Don't insult people If you read and follow that piece of advice you and HelloClan will get on like 2 peas in a pod, or 2 bombs in a holding bay if you prefer.

This rule is found under the rules tab on the server's main page (an older rule that apparently is no longer a rule), and SK was referring to the rules under the server tab.

However, I'll concede that I was incorrect to ban you. Feel free to use your name without fear of offending anyone, especially me. Still though, I have to wonder. Was having a name that got you temporarily banned worth it? Simply changing it when I asked you repeatedly would have kept you playing.

Those rules are meant to apply solely to clan members, rather than rules for the server. :p

The blame there though is on me/Helloclan. When that website section was first made, I said it would be misleading because people will come on over to forum.helloclan.eu/bfv/ , head to the "rules" section expecting, well, server rules, and be faced with those. I guess some of them are clearly designed for clan members only, but nowhere is that explicitly stated.

The person I mentioned it to disagreed, no-one else felt the same way and so it was left. A "rules" section which is supposed to only be for clan members and a "server" section where the rules for the server are hiding.

I guess now is as good a reason as any to go through and clear that up though, as they're rather outdated and this goes to show that the potential for misunderstanding is very much there.
