Ok i have a problem lately with battlefield Vietnam, right after i start it up, before the intro video comes, it crashes and says that a problem has been encountered. So I have to reinstall that, and after that it works for a few days, but then it all starts again, so i have to reinstall every week :( Does anyone know how to fix this?

When you re-install, are you deleting the registry keys also? Sounds like it keeps detecting a corrupt key. Also, could you also be trying to modify something, or customise anything? Using server mods of Bfv's maps and putting them in your game's directory will result in a CTD. It could also be a faulty mod that you are installing.

I have no mods installed , and i dont remove the registry keys after uninstall. A new update is that BFV doesnt work, even after uninstall. Right after i click the battlefield vietnam logo on my desktop, it says: A problem has been encountered and battlefield vietnam has been stopped. Sorry for the inconvenience ( it was in dutch i tried to translate it)

try again and let fail but this time, when it comes up click see error report, or see details (something to that nature), cause that will tell u where the error is... if that for some reason doesnt help try totally uninstalling and then reinstalling, it wont delete your profiles or anything like that so unistalling totally is safe.

I'm going to guess that Kurk is correct with respect to the registry issue.

If you don't have a program to clean out your unused system registry files, try this program: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

If you used CCleaner to clear out your registry and it didn't work, then you may need to do this:

Start->Run

In the "Run" dialouge box type in "regedit" (without quotes).

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> EA GAMES and see about deleting all Battle Field Vietnam entries.
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Electronic Arts -> EA Games and see about deleting all Battle Field Vietnam entries.

If this doesn't work, I dunno, do a clean wipe of your hard drive, reinstall the OS and all your games (be sure and backup first).

Ok Lt. Player, I did what you said, and battlefield vietnam started working again. The first round i played after reinstall was as it was supposed to be, but the 2nd round things started getting wrong. I had 2 guns in my hand (?) and my enemies looked.. unnatural. Their heads were 10x longer then before and sometimes they stretched into the clouds. ( see picture). The 3rd round, every second the game got stuck , i only heard the same sound ( enemy helicopter spo- enemy helicopter spo- enemy helicopter spo- enemy helicopter spo- enemy helicopter spo-), then it crashed and now every time i try the same thing happends :(

Wow, that looks like a rendering issue... If you can, either A.) Torrent a copy of Bfv (your disk might be corrupted), B.) Reinstall your Windows OS, or C.) Do both.
That is all I can think of. Never really have seen a rendering issue before right off the bat after a fresh install.

Um, that is really strange.

I don't think you have a corrupt disk.

You may have to reinstall your OS, but before you do that, check to see that you don't have any ActiveX problems.

Also, check if your video driver is up-to-date / the right one.

Oh wow, herp. Rendering issue would most likely lie with ActiveX or the GPU...

Well it is true, this started after my reinstall of windows in december ( I had to do this after a big crash). I am sure that is has nothing to do with the Battlefield Vietnam disks, because I have also used them to install Vietnam on a different computer, and everything works fine there. So how do i check for ActiveX errors?

When you had to do the reinstall how did you format your drive? That is, did you do the "Quick" option or the normal option?

If all of this started after you had to reinstall the OS, then I'm thinking that there is something wrong with your current installation of Windows, or you're running other software that is conflicting with the BFV graphics library.

As for ActiveX, I may have made a mistake when I typed that. Although, this web-page claims it checks ActiveX errors.

Anyway, I'm thinking now that you could have a DirectX problem.

For the DirectX problem, you can try this: Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information

From the System Information App, select Tools -> DirectX Diagnostic Tool

Clicking on the "DirectX Files" and the "Display" tabs may help you figure out if you have issues.

Are you using the correct video driver for your video card?

How about we just reinstall the os fully, an then try! lol really, how about you install the game into a different dictionary for example since your on win7 or vista just add a 2 at the end of the destination folder. If this doesn't work you should probably reinstall your OS.

I can tell you for certain that its not the video driver, since well you can play bc2 without the error as well as other games. So no need to update your video card. As for the registry keys, its probably best you clean that up for now.

Anyway, if it doesn't work still you should reinstall you OS with a full wipe.

Anyway good luck lol

Sorry that I didn't mention, but this is not the same computer as the one i run Bc2 on. This computer has problems with more games, like battlefield 1942, that crashes after startup. It's also not good enough to play Bc2. I guess that you guys are right and that the only option that will work is reinstall XP. Wich is by the way horrible to do, I have no driver cd's and only copies of XP meaning i have to download all drivers manually, and it is so hard to get them all up to date. ( I guess its time for a new computer ;) ) But just to be sure i'll try what you said tomorrow. Thanks very much for your help : )
