I don't have much time to write this so i'll be short.

I have a USB stick, which somehow got write protected, I don't know how. Now I cannot remove the write protection, and there is no switch on the USB that can solve this. By the way formatting it is not possible either, because of the protection. Does anyone know how to remove it?
Thanks.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

First (very important) cross your fingers then:
Goto Start > Run > type: regedit > hit enter. Goto path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

1 > Find entry "WriteProtect" if the value is set to 0x00000001 (1), double click it and set value to zero. (remember the value to revert back ...just in case)

Pray for maybe an hour or so and Reboot.

2 > If you still have the problem continue praying this time on your knees and try this:
Start > Run > cmd /k chkdsk :# /f > Then hit ENTER or is it OK.
Replace the # with drive letter of your flash drive
Continue praying and wait. If scan errors, ask your boss for a raise (with a huge smile) and replace drive

3 > If 1&2 did'nt work and it happenned for no apparent reason, you might have a worm-malware-virus.
Praying on your knees fingers crossed and now crying -->Full scan pc and attempt repair.
If all did't work before considering suicide u might want to use a reformat t#ool/utility depending on your drive here: ( i'd wipe it instead of reformat-you will lose all data either way)

Good luck !

It's about a USB stick, and it doesn't work on any PC. You sure this all works for that issue?

Ok
do above steps 2 and 3

OR
goto
>strat.type "computer management" then hit ENTER
>in left hit "disk management" then highlight and right click ur problem drive and try to change drive letter
then check drive

OR
Goto
start>type CMD then hit ENTER
Type diskpart then click yes in uac popup box
In new window type "list volume" without brackets
Now type "select volume #" without brackets and # being the problem drive
Type "attributes volume clear readonly" without brackets
now exit and check your drive

it is safer to use “safely remove hardware” before removing any external drives

Hi Vyrus, I tried what you wrote in your post.
In the menu where all the partitions are showed, it says 'read only' , in the box next to the USB stick. That's why I can't change anything. I then tried this:
Goto
start>type CMD then hit ENTER
Type diskpart then click yes in uac popup box
In new window type "list volume" without brackets
Now type "select volume #" without brackets and # being the problem drive
Type "attributes volume clear readonly" without brackets

But it said "This operation is not supported on removable media" (translation)

This one:
2 > If you still have the problem continue praying this time on your knees and try this:
Start > Run > cmd /k chkdsk :# /f > Then hit ENTER or is it OK.

Yes i have bfv_1.iso

I would love to have that file though, if there's a way I could get it?

Thanks for your help on the USB stick and on the iso file.
Replace the # with drive letter of your flash drive
Continue praying and wait. If scan errors, ask your boss for a raise (with a huge smile) and replace drive

Didn't work either, and the following error was given: ""This operation is not supported because this medium has writing-protection" (translation)

That was my problem as well when I tried solving this problem, many things are impossible to do since it has writing protection.

My computer>irght clic prob drive>properties>under security tab clic advance>under owner tab edit>put check replace owner (highlight your actual user name) and apply

see if it works...the idea is gaining full control of prob drive

In the property there is no 'security tab'. All there is is:
-General
-Extra
-Hardware
-Sharing
-Edit

in menu bar: >tools > folder options > view > schroll down and uncheck
->don't show hidden files...
->hide protected ssytem files..
This should show security tab.
retry:
My computer>irght clic prob drive>properties>under security tab clic advance>under owner tab edit>put check replace owner (highlight your actual user name) and apply

I already had those things unchecked.

Tried both of them, they didn't work.

This is not a problem of my computer, it's protected against writing on all computers.

When something changes with no reason...its a computer or hardware thing cant be much else..loll...but in this case seems to be a damaged stick...just dropping it on floor can kill it!

try the link dl what i uploaded and unpack and clic disable write..as admin
see if it fixes
