Heres byrds thought on how to solve US eco problems in 6 WORDS and then an explanation..
BUY LESS GOODS FROM EASTERN ASIA!!!!
This includes all goods made in China and India. Back in the old days, america made its own goods. Now way to much things have Made in [some east asian country, china, india, taiwan, ect]. Heck, I would'nt be surprised if American flags say made in China by now. We shoud make our own goods again, or at least make many more of our goods again. The benifits: Creates many jobs, would bring in capital from exporting our goods, we would spend less on cheap ass asain shit, our goods would be durable, rugged, and last! Downsides: It would piss off China and hurt their economy a little bit, but hell who cares! We are the US, not China, so why should we but them above us and give a rats a** about them?

I don't see how producing in America would benefit consumers. With all America's mandatory wages and benefits, how are the companies supposed to meet the profits they are receiving now? Although $100 million in profit sounds like a lot to you, that is nothing for a company. Perhaps the increase of consumer spending power, but when companies produced in America, did it really benefit the people? From 1776 to the early 1980s, was there a lot of consumer spending power?
Anyhow, its within American "culture" to want to buy things cheap. Producing in Eastern Asia makes everything cheaper. Besides, with the current growth of China at the moment, you can expect more goods from India and places like Thailand because of China's growing middle class.

Byrd you actually think not buying cheap Asian products but buying expansive American products will make the 'average Joe' richer?

@Byrd, Free trade is a GOOD thing. The USA cannot simply start buying the same goods at more expensive prices and hope for growth. Economics does not work that way, or else we would still have tariffs. The only way to change buying habits is government intervention and regulation (a surefire way to kill the economy) which is not going to happen considering our relationship with China (and it would never happen in any sane system in the first place). We buy cheap Chinese goods, they hold our debts. As it has already been said here, the future points to cheap labor drying up in China (one child policy ftw) and a major increase in labor in countries like India with exploding populations.

@cash, huh?

@Kurk, buying things cheap isn't an American thing, it's a common sense thing.

Perhaps, but as an example: In Japan, most video games come out with a special edition. These special editions cost around $30-$60 more than the original version; however, the special editions tend to outsell the regular editions by a landslide; think Roosevelt vs Landon in electoral votes in 1936 which was 523 - 8. This could be because the average person makes more money than most places in the world. It depends highly on the culture: the Chinese and Japanese tend to save more than many Europeans and especially Americans, who seem (no offense) to be quick with their money.

lolololololol,why we need to discuss about politic?
and by the way byrd, usa can not afford (other industry states too) to make their own products,because it is much expensive
and do not worry, usa still produce stuff, which brings much money and is important (Cars, Technology, Weapons...)
Stuff like Clothes can be produced in south east asia countries,because it is much cheaper
if usa would produce clothes, civilian could not afford it, because it would be much expensive

Well the idea is to give the "Average Joe" a weekly paycheck which he/she then goes and spends on other American made goods so our dollar doesn't go to China which it WOULD piss China off, but it's not INTENTIONALLY done. Think of China as a person who is bleeding a lot. We the US give China blood in a huge quantity all at once. This makes US need blood, so we try and get some of ours back which is now a rediculous surplus in China. In other words China got our money and yeah it will hurt them to get ours back but it won't kill their economy because they have a giant surplus of money while we desperately need it.
