Cops vs Robbers
The goal of this mod is to recreate Battlefield Hardline in Battlefield Vietnam. I don't plan to recreate Hardline 1:1 in Vietnam, but take the overall theme of Hardline and form it into something similar to Battlefield Vietnam. Why would I choose to develop this mod for Battlefield Vietnam? Why wouldn't I choose to create a mod for the more popular Battlefield 1942 or Battlefield 2/2142 with more modern features? Simply put, Battlefield Vietnam has a lot of features that I need to create a game similar to Battlefield Hardline. Below are some of the features I will be implementing into the mod.
Planned Features:
- I will be using the in-game car/vehicle radio with similar music or edited music from Hardline. This is the main reason for choosing Vietnam. Battlefield Vietnam allows players to listen to a radio inside of their vehicle. Any other player that is nearby, will be able to hear the selected track playing in the vehicle. Players are even able to add their tracks to the radio, but others will still only hear the original track that was played since they have that in their audio files, and its the default track from the mod. Battlefield 1942, BF2, and BF2142 do not have this feature, and it makes Vietnam special in a way. Vietnam also implemented it in a way where you don't have to cycle through songs to get to the song you like, you can just pick it from a list.
- Every vehicle belonging to each team will be able to be spawned into. Most modern BF titles do this and since BF Vietnam does not have a squad system and doesn't allow spawning on players, this will help make cars more strategic. If there is a map for example with just one control point in the middle, and let's say you cannot spawn on this control point, then having a vehicle at the ready to spawn into is important.
- There will be multiple vehicle classes in the game, and some of these classes will have unique features. I will be coming up with the names of these vehicle classes in the future, but here is a simple breakdown
For example:
Supers - These are the fastest vehicles in the game, and they will be equipped with nitrous (nos). These will be two-seater cars. They will have the ability to let players hang out of the window to shoot weapons more easily.
Sedans - These are a bit slower than supers but can carry four people, and they will be equipped with nitrous (nos) as well. These will be two-seater cars. They will have the ability to let players hang out of the window to shoot weapons more easily.
Trucks - They will offer either 2 or 4 seats and some will have a mounted machine gun on the back, almost like a technical
Motorcycles - They will offer 1 or 2 seats and will also offer nitrous (nos)
Attack Chopper - An example of this would be the little bird with dual machine guns. There might also be a rocket variant. This will be a 2 seater.
Transport Chopper - As the name implies, this will be a transport chopper with dual-mounted machine guns on each side and will include 7 or 8 seats.
APC - A truck with 6 seats and a top-mounted machine gun
- There will be heat-seeking/auto lock on stingers in the game
- In Vietnam, there is a booby trap weapon in the game. It's like C4 but it sticks to a vehicle and explodes once someone moves the vehicle (like a landmine). This is also a feature of Battlefield Hardline. It is called Sabotage in Hardline.
- There are also mobile spawn points in Vietnam that can be placed down by a class. This was one of the gadgets in Hardline (Satellite Spawn)
- Certain maps will include animated skyboxes and different weather effects like rain or snow. An example of an animated skybox would be one where clouds are moving in the background and there are lighting strikes. Every map will have its night version. Maps will also include things like TVs that play videos with audio, working radios, and animated lights. Cars and motorbikes on night maps will have working headlights.
- Some trees and vegetation can be animated to match the wind direction in the game. In Vietnam, the wind direction affects the direction smoke effects blows in from buildings, wrecks, and vehicle damage.
- There will be a full working cloud system implemented into certain maps
- All maps will use high-resolution textures and sounds
- I will be able to utilize the underground system that was implemented in Vietnam for some maps
- In Vietnam, helicopters can lift tanks, APCs, jeeps, and supply crates into the air and onto the Battlefield. I will try and design a map that can make special use of this feature. I might implement it into a race map where someone in a helicopter needs to airlift a car to the next part of a race track, for example. This also gives me the idea to create a map for just racing cars to control points. I would give the airlift functionality to the transport chopper only.
- Different colored smoke grenades and grenades that push vehicles back
- Night vision goggles for night maps
- Explosion packs like those present in BF1942
- A kit that allows you to throw a med-pack down
Conclusion
I think this would be a really fun mod but I would also like to hear the opinions of others. I know not too many people are interested in the cops and robbers theme but I think it is something new and fresh compared to all of the other mods out there for BF1942 and BFVietnam. Also, I still plan to make an HD Remaster mod of sorts for Vietnam, and I will be working on it bit by bit at the same time.
Cheers,
