Many years ago a clan named PFT, made a special portable version of FH 0.7. It needed no install to play, in other words the exe can be run without installing and is handy to run off say a zip drive. It became one of the more popular versions, as in contrast to installing perhaps 5-10 different files over an hour, there was just basically one and could play in a few minutes.
As time has passed it has become clear several issues have developed. I did contact the original maker about making a new one, but that project is going slowly for now. In any case those using the old version, I wanted to get down somewhere some of issues and fixes I have encountered.
The first is that, the one on ModDB is actually only Part I, which had a cut down list of maps. Part II, is difficult to find or not at all, and so it missing most of the customs. It will really take some time to get that archive back online.
In any case here is some of the tips and tricks I have heard of:
FH Portable fixes:
Run as admin no compatibility on Windows 10
Delete almein 004 from Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Archives\bf1942\levels
(note this is not the standard FH map folder)
menu_001 fix delete <BF1942 DIR>\Mods\bf1942\Archives\menu_001.rfa
(this fixes the HD menu which overwrote the FH in-game menus)
Finally the new, new master server such as the one at Hello or the one from Henk. Portable is already no-cd, widescreen, hd menus, afaik, but its possible to use others and I had some luck with that.

Forgotten Hope Portable standalone version. It is the full game. no installation need. just download to any drive (also USB Stick possible)and play! You dont need to install fixes, all included!
